Winter Music Conference – Miami Day 5

Friday and I still haven’t hooked up with Flipside. We’ve been missing each other all week so today I must be sure to meet with the MC on our hottest new track “Candy Coated“. Sure, you don’t know about this yet but you will. Flipside (Canadian MC and owner of his own record company PBR recordings) has laid down some very very cool lyrics on Hatcha‘s dirty dubplate “Bongo Vamp“. Don’t ask me how it came about, it just did. The result is a cross Atlantic Hip Hop versus Dubstep mash up monster. Flipside has been making tunes for the best part of a decade in his hometown Toronto but had a big big tune with Deadmau5 “Hi Friend” back in 2008 on Mau5trap and last year hooked up with Funkagenda for “Nobody Listens To Techno”. So, today is my mission to meet with Natale (the name his mum gave him).

But first we go to the famous Diner on 11th St to have our first bonefide American brunch. You really can’t beat Yankee brunches. For some reason they’re even better than a full English. Now with the stomach bursting we head off to the Surfcomber hotel for the Pete Tong pool party. BBC no longer does Miami but Pete is here as usual and I saw Annie Mac briefly at the Fontainbleu the other evening so even if we’re not sponsoring them to be here with our license fee they are here doing their thing. Luckily we got into the Surfcomber with relative ease. Thanks to the office for sorting the guest list out. It was smooth and painless even though this party was a roadblock. It had chucked it down with rain in the morning so where there was grass or sand it was soggy and had threatened to ruin much of the days events (all of which are outside) but thankfully stopped by around 1.30 and wasn’t effecting this event at all. As I got there Kaskade was in full flow. He was pretty much playing all the big vocal tracks of the moment including “Starry Eyed” which had them jumping. Pete Tong came on straight after and was pumping out the minimal grooves as I had to offer my excuses and move on to NIKKI BEACH to meet with Jim Welch who’s party was effected by the rain as they had to move the party inside due to risks.

As I got there Ferry Corsten was doing his thing. Meanwhile, I’m texting with Flipside (like the last 3 days) and he’s at the Beatport beach party at the Gansevoort which is 20 blocks up South Beach. We stay and hang with Jim and his band “Shiny Toy Guns” who have a remix album out on Ultra and who are performing later at Nikki Beach. In the end we head off to the Beatport party. This was another road block, mainly because it was free to get in. So by the time we get there its one out one in. Thankfully people are coming out so we do get in for the last hour. Flipside is on stage MCing with Bad Boy Bill DJing. Flipside also performs his own new tune “In the Zone”. We Meet. Hoooooooray.

To be continued.
